ART 332 Figure Drawing

syllabus

Through observational drawing in this course we explore the various historical methods used to describe the rhythms and structures of the human figure. The primary modes used are: gesture, sighting and measuring, planer analysis, contour drawing, anatomical analysis, and both optical and planer use of value. Various methods of representing the figure will be addressed including the development of creative concepts in representing the human body.

Fragmentation--. The idea of fragmentation is one that can refer to the actual physicality of the body or to the less obvious psychological ones. Spend some time doing research on the notion of fragmentation and see what aspect you would like to represent. I have given you some examples but these are just for starters. ​

4-5 in-class assignments (one must be a gesture drawing)

A short written (typed statement saying why you chose the works presented will also be due. This statement should help you with discussion of the works at the critique. Take it seriously. ).
